Strategy Backtesting and Optimisation

With Trading Station, you can optimize and backtest your strategies with a few powerful technical tools. Learn how to access strategy optimization and backtesting tools right on your platform.

Strategy optimization and backtesting are advanced functions utilized by skilled technical traders. They let you efficiently test a range of strategy variations to locate those that are most satisfactory to you. To access these features, click this button at the top of the screen. Select the strategy you wish to optimize and select a currency pair and a time range. Here you set the range of the parameters to test. When the test is complete the optimization results are loaded here.

This matrix is a powerful analytical tool that helps you quickly pinpoint parameter combinations you like most. Green boxes are profitable trades and red boxes are unprofitable trades, with the darkest of both colors showing the extremes. After locating your optimal strategy inputs, it is time to backtest the strategy to see how it would have performed over a period of time in the past. Right-click on the input settings you prefer and select Run Test. Your profitable and unprofitable trades are displayed and you are quickly on your way to developing your ideal trading strategy.
